Unit of measurement

Create unit of measurements => Gateway of tally -> Inventory info -> Unit of measure -> Create -> select simple first in type of unit.(for example you want to create rupee then write 'Rs''Rupees' in formal name and press enter.)
Then in the same way you can create paisa.
Then in order to show the relation between Rs and paisa i.e. 1Rs = 100 paisa, you have to select 'Compound' in place of 'Simple' in the type of unit.
Then select Rs in place of first unit and type 100 under conversion and paisa in place of second unit.Then press enter and then y(yes) to agree and n(no) to deny.
You can do the same in case of kg and gram, dollar and Rs etc. in symbol and

Stock Creation

For creation of stock => Gateway of tally -> Inventory info -> Stock item -> Create -> enter.
Create stock items from here. Select the unit of measurement i.e. the unit at which the stock is to be measured.(For example : tv, mobile, cement,etc.)

Change of date and financial period

To change the date press F2.
To change the financial period press Alt + F2.
Note- You cannot change the date in the software provided in this blog as it is for educational purpose only.

Ledger Creation

Creation of ledger => Gateway of Tally -> Masters -> Accounts info -> Ledger -> Create.
press enter.
Write the ladger name there and select under which the ledger is to be created(For example : travelling expenses under indirect expenses)
The primary ledgers which is to be created for every companies are as follows :

• Purchase
• Sales
• Purchase return
• Sales return
• Sundry debtors
• Sundry creditors
• Stock
• Capital

There are two more ledgers Cash and Profit and loss account. These two ledgers are automatically created by the software.

The Secondary ledgers are to be created as per the requirement of the company.

Deleting a company

You can delete a company by opening the company information screen in alteration mode and pressing Alt + d. Tally will ask for confirmation press "Y" to confirm deletion of the company.

Selection, viewing and altering a company

After creating one or more companies you can get the list of companies by pressing F1. From the list you can select the company you want to work with and press enter. The company will will be active.
**(For selection of a company => Gateway of tally -> press F1 -> select the company -> press enter.)**

For viewing and altering an existing company first select the company and then press ALT + F3 at Gateway of tally. Select the option Alter. Select the company you want to alter from the list of companies. The company alteration screen appears, where you can make necessary alterations and save the information.
**(For viewing and alteration => Gateway of tally -> press alt + F3 -> Select alter -> select the company you want to alter -> press enter)**

(NOTE- you cannot change the companies data directory)

Create a company

After having created a company in it, the Gateway of Tally will appear as follows:

Loading Tally

In order to load Tally 9, from the desktop double click on Tally 9 shortcut icon or select start > Programs > Tally 9 > Tally 9. The following screen will appear, which is known as GATEWAY OF TALLY.

Installation of Tally 9

Step 1
Insert the installation CD in the CD drive.

Step 2
Click the Start button and select Run option.

Step 3
Click on the Browse button and select CD drive from Look in option.

Step 4
Click the file Install.exe and click Ok button. The setup Wizard of Tally 9 will appear.

Step 5
Click on next.

Step 6
The License Agreement will be displayed by the Installation Wizard. Read the agreement. If you want to continue click on I agree else click on I Decline.


Step 7
You will find certain directories chosen by Tally. You may change the location of the directory.
Application Directory : In this directory all the Tally program files are
stored.

Data Directory : In this directory all the Tally data files are stored.

Configuration Directory : In this directory all the configuration files are
stored.

Language Directory : In this directory all the language files are stored.


Then click on ‘Next>’.

Step 8
Select the country and language (you have to select the language in which you want to use the software).
If you want to install the software. Click Install.
If you don’t want to install. Click Cancel.

Then installation will start. If you want to stop installation, click Cancel.

Versions of TALLY

The first version of TALLY i.e. Tally 3.0 was released in 1989. The tutorial is based on Tally 9 which has been released in 22nd December, 2006.
